Hollister, MO (PRWEB) March 6, 2006

Some people view Harry Whittington being shot as an accident, and something that is bound to happen after numerous hunting trips are made, others view it as carelessness and a big mistake by V.P. Dick Cheney. Those with the second viewpoint, feel the need to increase gun safety and hunting regulations.

There are several standards that are set in regards to gun safety including:

Handle all guns as if they were loaded.

Keep the trigger finger straight until the firearm is located on the target.

Confirm the target and the line of fire before discharging the weapon.

Although the list for gun safety seems simple, the benefits of following those standards would eliminate many injuries or killings that occur in a given year. On the other hand, hunting has its own set of rules including:

Communication is essential. If hunting in a group, tell the other members that an animal is going to be retrieved. The group should stop, wait for the hunter to get back in line after retrieving the animal, and then the hunt can continue.

Only shoot in one?s range of motion. Never turn around to shoot because someone else may be hunting or retrieving an animal and may be mistaken as an animal.

Hunting education. Classes are required in 49 states and many of the Canadian provinces.

Wear bright orange. Clothing is important to make oneself stand out and not be mistaken for the hunted animal.

Safety comes before shooting any game. Go home empty handed before risking someone?s safety or life.

Despite the ongoing controversy whether the hunting incident was an accident or a matter of not following proper hunting and gun safety regulations, the National Safety Council indicates that in the last 30 years, hunting accidents have decreased dramatically, while the number of hunters has increased. On average, there are only 7 injuries per 100,000 participants. Although all injuries are alarming, hunting is one of the safest outdoor activities. By regularly practicing safe hunting and firearms use, the number of injuries and deaths caused by this sport can continue to decline.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, that?s not the only thing in hunting that has changed. From 1996 to 2005, deer hunting among women in Missouri has increased by 6%. The reason men hunt is primarily in the hopes of bringing home a trophy animal and the mere sport of it. However, women hunt as a way to associate with friends and family or for food. As a result, women are more likely to hunt does for their tender meat.

Harvesting does is what is needed to help control the overpopulation of deer. At High Mountain Whitetails, we take this process one step farther through our hunting preserves. We realize that by allowing bucks to reach their full maturity and maximum genetic potential and limiting the number of hunts on our land each year, we increase the chances of a successful hunt and help preserve the deer population.

In an effort to keep hunters from shooting bucks prematurely, the state of Missouri set up a temporary antler-point restriction rules. As of 2004, the antler-point restriction rules only covered 29 counties of northwestern and central Missouri. Statewide hunting regulations require that a buck have antlers at least three inches long to be considered ?antlered?.

The ?antlered? process normally takes place at about 1.5 years of age. However, with the antler-point restriction, particular counties require that the bucks have at least four points on one side before being able to be hunted. This takes place usually after the buck is 2.5 years of age.

Although this has not decreased the overall number of deer being hunted, it has decreased the number of young bucks that are hunted and increased the number of does that are hunted. This antler-point harvest regulation has protected the 1.5 to 2.5 year old deer that are the one?s who frequently reproduce. In essence, the antler-point restriction rules have been effective in controlling the deer population.

Because of the some of the deer that were protected last year survived and harvested again this year, more deer above 2.5 years of age are in the antler-point restricted areas. These kind of results have made hunters in northern Missouri interested in seeing regulations like this enforced around the state. However, many believe that the popularity of this regulation will not be seen in the same light in southern Missouri where deer are less abundant.

The goal of the restrictions is to enhance the hunting opportunities while controlling the deer population. After all, if too many bucks are hunted early on in their lives, fewer deer will be bred thus continuing to decrease the deer population. However, by enforcing antler-point restriction rules, more deer can breed and the hunting experience will be even better as better quality, mature bucks are available.

The park includes some of the most popular canoeing water anywhere in the world. The Current and Jacks Fork River are heavily spring-fed, and are navigable throughout the year. Between the two rivers, the park provides about 120 miles of floatable water.

The rivers are crystal clear, cool, and have a blue-green color. Any float on either river will take you past mountains, springs, and bluffs. There are many gravel bars along the way that are perfect for picnicking, camping, or just relaxing. There are no rapids on the rivers that pose a serious threat, although fast riffles and shoals are common. Many canoe rentals service the river, so finding a boat and a shuttle is not a problem. Here’s a few of the most special floats.

The Upper Current River is loosely defined as the water between Montauk State Park and Akers Ferry, also known by fisherman as the “trout section”.

Between Montauk State Park and Cedar Grove, trophy brown trout are the main attraction, while there are plenty of rainbows around as well. Between Cedar Grove and Akers Ferry, the fishery is under put and take regulations, and 10″ rainbows are stocked about a dozen times each year.

The Ozark National Scenic Riverways provide a wealth of fishing opportunities. The most popular species include smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, and goggle-eye, and green sunfish, but walleye, pickerel, and various rough fish are also available. The exceptionally clear waters of the Jacks Fork and Current River provide an incredibly attractive environment for fishing, and it seems that the world class game fish populations are just a bonus.

The upper Current generally has a high gradient, but there are no real rapids to speak of. This is famous trout water, and the number of fisherman will reflect that. Float fishing and wade fishing are about equally popular, with the best wading conditions occurring above Cedar Grove. There is about 20 miles of water here, and it’s all good for trout. Smallmouth bass fishing is also pretty decent between Cedar Grove and Akers Ferry.

NJ Hunting .The middle Current River is home to the river’s classic smallmouth bass water. The middle Current is generally defined as the water between Akers Ferry and the junction with the Jacks Fork River (aka Two Rivers), a distance of nearly 40 miles. The first 12 miles from Akers Ferry to Round Spring provides a mix of coldwater and warm-water fisheries, with rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. Below Round Spring, smallmouth bass become king.

They hide in every pool and riffle in this part of the river, and fish densities are very high. Due to a lack of special regulations and extremely high fishing pressure, fish size is usually fairly small. Ten to fourteen inch bass are the norm, with some bigger and a few smaller. Goggle-eye and sunfish are also very common. There are some areas to wade fish, but a canoe will give you access to quite a bit more water.

The lower Current River, from Two Rivers to the Arkansas state line provides some 70 miles of very big water for fisherman. Smallmouth bass still reign supreme. Although there are still not any special regulations on the lower river, the sheer size of the river allows many to grow to trophy proportions, and the average size of bass is considerably larger than any other part of the river. The river by this point has slowed down considerably, which makes boat fishing much easier. There are still quite a few riffles, but they tend to be relatively short, and are separated by many long pools.

Below Van Buren, a few new species enter the scene, including walleye, crappie, and largemouth bass. Walleye fishing tends to be an on and off proposition, but generally they are common below Big Spring, and get even more common the closer to the Arkansas border you are. Crappie and largemouth bass also become common in the huge water below Big Spring, with the best populations in the slow backwaters. There are some productive areas to fish off the bank for smallmouth and panfish, but wade fishing is pretty difficult this far downstream. Most fishermen utilize canoes or river jon boats.

There are some excellent NJ Hunting opportunities in the National Park. Unlike most areas managed by the National Park Service, hunting is allowed under statewide regulations. Deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, and a limited population of upland birds can be found. Black bear are becoming somewhat common in the park, but it’s not yet legal to hunt them.

There is a good diversity of habitat in the area, with both river valleys and mountains available to the NJ Hunting

. Also, it’s always a fun adventure to combine a day of fishing and hunting. Just remember hunting isn’t allowed in developed areas of the park.

Duck hunting is one of the most popular hunting sports in the world. It is as much a social calling as it is a hunt, in fact, representing a whole set of cultural standards and etiquette rules that many people do not even consider. It has a whole culture all its own, from a proper dress code to duck hunting dogs and assistants. The world of duck hunting is ripe with cultural significance, but is also has a dark side and represents a less than desirable aspect of human nature. Regardless of the point of view, there is something to be learned about duck hunting that may shed some light on either side of the ethical quandary.

Duck hunting is mainly a sporting activity around the world now, as commercial duck hunting has since been banned in most of the developed countries. Duck hunting is, in fact, as old as time itself. There are early indications that ducks and geese were somehow hunted during the Ice Age. Cave drawings indicate that duck hunting was a sound practice early on in human existence, giving way to ducks and swans appearing on cave paintings in Ice Age Europe. There is also evidence of duck hunting in Egypt, as a mural on the tomb of Khum-Hotpe displays a man capturing ducks in a stream. Ducks were also likely hunted by early man in the Americas, as early Peruvian art indicates.

          ]]>

With this international history, duck hunting enjoys a popularity that spreads around the world. It is especially popular in North America, where the largest number of localized ducks can be located. Most ducks use the Mississippi River as a migratory guide, so many duck hunts take place along the river to use it as a guide for finding ducks. Arkansas is a major hotbed of duck hunting, with Stuttgart being considered the “duck hunting capital of the world”.

Duck hunting is often considered popular because of its simplicity. The tools of the trade are simplistic enough, from a decoy set to a shotgun and duck call. The essence of duck hunting is based around the trickery of using the decoy and the duck call in tandem to lure the ducks out and into the air towards the decoy. After this takes place, the ducks are in open range for the hunt and the firing begins. These hunts take place around rivers, streams, lakes and any other bodies of water where ducks can be found.

There are many aspects that stand in contrast to duck hunting, of course. Most waterfowl conservation experts agree that the hunting of any type of waterfowl does little to help any situation. In fact, most marsh and wetland areas are shrinking at tremendous rates, giving rise the the criticism that duck hunting effectively diminishes an already diminishing habitat. There are several organizations that constantly spar with duck hunters over this reality.

One organization is the popular Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited is an international organization that stands as the leader in non-profit marshland protection and the protection of waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited sometimes works with hunters to protect the marshlands and protect the hunter’s way of life. The main goal of Ducks Unlimited is the conservation of localized habitats where ducks can be found, enabling hunters to continue protected and logical hunts of ducks and enabling the survival of more ducks by creating better places for them to live.

Still, some hunters ignore this philosophy and have no interest in any protection of habitats. They, instead, pillage the duck areas and hunt ducks that should not be hunted. Duck hunting remains a controversial sport because of this aspect, unfortunately, and will continue to have a dark side as long as hunters remain blissfully ignorant as to the realities of organizations such as Ducks Unlimited. Without the cooperation of hunters and marshland protectors, duck hunts may be a thing of the past.

Hunting Laser Range Finders let hunters to aim their targets speedily and unfailingly. Presently, you can find a variety of choices among laser range finders starting from 0 to 00. Always remember that sports and consumer units give the equal laser output and this output can be controlled for safety reasons. But the difference can be observed in the field performance which can be very much astonishing.

Some of the Hunting Laser Range Finders advertised with 1500 yard range cannot range the deer accurately past 600 yards. The difference is caused due to the optics and error correction software’s. Following is a brief review about the most leading Hunting Laser Range Finders with 1000 yard+ capability for sharp shooters and hunters.

Swarovski Laser-Guide: It offers a great affordable price that is 9, and it can make objects visible up to 1500 yards and even beyond that.

It features the most popular 8×30 monocular, which ranges the deer and other man sized targets better than any other at the distance of even 1000 yards. Below 00 it shows that maximum reach for reflective objects and provides an unbelievable reach. Due to these features it beats its competitors, another shortcoming products is the Swaro which would be offering variety of settings for variable aiming circle.

Leica LRF 1200: With a price of only 9, Leica LRF 1200 wins out when you really consider the value for a dollar. Among all the other Hunting Laser Range Finders this one can be compared with Swaro’s performance but cannot be compared with the extreme ranges. Though you can buy it half of the cost of the Swarovski but when it comes to quality it gives up very little to the Swaro out to approximately 900 yards. All in all it will not range far but it can prove out to be user friendly and high quality unit. It also has some important features which minimizes the probability of the false returns.

Leica CRF 1200: It was introduced in 2006: Its price is 9, optical and laser performance is matchless and it is small enough to be fitted in a shirt pocket, due to its unique circuitry it offers a great battery life as compare to other rangefinders. It can be held vertically as the monocular is on the top. Its weight is less than Swarovski and one can easily hold it in hand, this model works greatly when held in a binocular style.

A Hunting Lease Agreement is simply a contract or agreement between a landowner (lessor) and an individual hunter or a group of sportsmen (lessees). The term “lease” has become to be used quite loosely and is actually a license to hunt on private property, sometimes also referred to as a trespass fee. The purpose of a hunting lease is to grant access to specifically described private property to hunt game (and/or conduct other specialized activities) during certain definitive time periods. Hunting leases vary greatly depending on the goals of the landowner and the objectives of the sportsmen involved.

If everyone involved knows what they are getting into in the beginning, it can save a lot of headaches down the road. It is hard to think of everything up front unless you have had some experience and have been involved in a hunting lease or hunt club in the past.

The written agreement serves as a contract that protects agreed upon rights of landowners and sportsmen. Spend some time working on a well-thought out written lease agreement as it creates the cornerstone for a successful hunting lease program. Many of the conflicts that arise between hunters and landowners can be prevented and a good relationship can be maintained by having a well written lease. Effective hunting lease agreements protect the interest of both the landowner and hunting club and are flexible enough to allow enjoyment of the property for hunting by sportsmen.

The basic inclusions in a lease agreement include the name and address of everyone involved, the duration of the lease as well as the game allowed to be hunted.

A description of the property and its boundaries obviously are essential. An aerial map can be very helpful. The price of the lease and when it is due and the consequences if not paid should be included in the contract. A termination clause and subleasing clause should be considered. Most landowners will not want to allow subleasing so they do not have to worry about third party disputes. There should be sections that describe the lessee’s responsibilities and a section for the lessor’s responsibilities. Do not forget to include the number of members allowed on the lease and a guest policy. Last but not least, always include and indemnity or hold-harmless clause although you will certainly also want to consider additional insurance to protect yourself.

Recreational hunting leases have become an important source of supplemental income for forest and farmland owners across the U.S. As landowners consider hunting leases as another source of income, they should understand the advantages and disadvantages of a hunting lease. There are numerous guidelines and considerations in developing a hunting lease program as well as provisions that are important to include in a written Hunting Lease Agreement. Hunting leases can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both landowners and sportsmen with advance planning, preparation, and communication.

Should hunters be required to take an education class as a requirement for getting a turkey-hunting license? This is controversy that continues to rage in many wild game hunting circles. Here are some guidelines for understanding the basic requirements that many states have put forth regarding hunter education classes and requirements for turkey hunting licenses.

Do Most States Have Hunter Education Classes as a Requirement for a Hunting License?

The short answer is ‘yes.’ Most states do require some sort of hunter education before an individual is granted a license. However, in most states these requirements are waived if the individual who is applying for the hunter license was born after a certain date or are already of a certain age. Most hunter education classes are only required for young hunters. Check with your local game, fish and wildlife management department to see what the hunter education requirements are in your state.

When Should You Take a Hunter Education Course?

What is the best time to take a hunter education course? Most hunters make the mistake of waiting until the hunting season is over to take a course. This will usually be too late. Most courses that are offered in the late summer and in the early fall are offered just in time for the start of the hunting season. Most of these classes are staffed by volunteer instructors and have a cap on the amount of people who can register. Thus, it is imperative that you register early if you are serious about taking a hunter education class, or if it required as a part of your hunting license permit. There are many types of hunting education classes, and the weekend courses tend to fill up fast, for obvious reasons.

          ]]>

What are the Fees for Taking a Hunter Education Class?

Almost all hunter education classes will charge some kind of fee. The fee will depend on your local game, fish and wildlife management department; so make sure to check the fee schedule in your area.

What is the Goal of Most Hunter Education Classes?

Most hunter education classes have put forth specific goals. The goal of most states is to lower the incidence of hunting accidents and violations by providing hunters with the right kind of education and training. Hunter education classes are in the business of promoting responsible, knowledgeable and safe hunting activities. Many state legislatures followed a trend in the 1960s and 1970s that required all new hunters to gain hunter education before being able to receive their hunting license and permit.

Do Hunter Education Classes Really Work?

Research has showed evidence for the ability of hunting education classes to lower the incidences of accidents and violations. Some organizations believe that hunter education is an important part of keeping today’s hunters educated and prepared for the hunting experience in the safest way possible. Hunting education courses provides this knowledge.

What You Need to Purchase a State Hunting License

Most states have several requirements for purchasing a state hunting license and permit. Most states require some kind of hunter education before the applicant can procure an official state-hunting license. In order to purchase a hunting license in some states, state law requires applicants to present a certificate of competency in the use of firearms and hunter safety. This is usually a requirement for junior licenses. In some cases, you will also have to present prior hunting licenses that you have held before a specific year. Some states also require you to provide certification if you have hunted on private property before a certain year. If you are a non-resident, you may also have to present certification that you are applying for a non-resident license and that you will only be hunting in restricted areas.

Are you interested in becoming experienced in turkey hunting, but you are not sure what the hunting license requirements are? There are many things to check off before you can engage in turkey hunting. Here are some guidelines for how you can fulfill the hunting license requirements that are needed for legal turkey hunting. The requirements for a turkey-hunting license will vary according to your specific state. In general, however, you can expect to fulfill a set of requirements before you are given a turkey-hunting license.

Different Kinds of Hunting Licenses – Which One Do You Need?

There are many different kinds of hunting licenses. Which kind will you need for turkey hunting? It depends on what kind of turkey hunting you would like to do. If you are planning on only doing a little springtime turkey hunting in order to take advantage of the gobbler activity that is common during the spring season, you will usually only need to get a temporary permit from your local game, fish and wildlife department. However, if you are serious about doing some long-term, year-round wild turkey hunting or other kinds of wild game hunting, you will often have to pay more for a full license. Here are some guidelines for getting a long-term hunting license. The ins and outs of getting a license will always depend on your local and state laws, so these are merely guidelines for what you can expect from your local game, fish and wildlife department.

          ]]>

Getting a Recreational License and Permit

In some areas, you can get a so-called recreational license that entitles you to do all kinds of hunting in a specified area. In some cases, you can procure these recreational licenses and permits from the local county tax collector office, or subagents, including local sporting goods stores and other retailers that are known to sell fishing or hunting equipment and which are licensed to sell these recreational licenses and permits. The price of procuring a permit, license or issuance fees will be subject to change depending on the local legislative session, which maintains the fee schedule. Some areas allow the convenience of online recreational license sales, and you can buy directly from the regional department over the Internet.

Other Ways to Purchase a Hunting License and Permit

There are other ways to purchase a hunting license and permit. For instance, the state of Georgia keeps the process of buying a hunting license or permit simple enough. They offer individuals two simple ways to purchase a hunting license or permit. The first way to buy a hunting license and permit is to purchase it from a licensed dealer. The second way to purchase a hunting license or permit is to purchase it online directly from the commission in charge of monitoring the hunting and licenses. In order to purchase a hunting license directly from a dealer, individuals should consult with their local sporting good stores, marinas, bait and tackle shops and hardware stores. Many of these licensed dealers are also authorized to sell hunting licenses and permits to non-residents as well. In these cases, you should ask specifically for a non-resident license. Always be prepared to show official identification. You can also purchase hunting licenses directly from the authorized and secure website.

How Much Will a Wild Turkey Hunting License Cost?

The cost of buying a wild turkey hunting license will depend on the state. Most states operate on a specific fee schedule. In general, you can expect to pay less for a turkey-hunting license than you would for bigger game. You can also purchase a lifetime license if you would like to save money in the long run.
